Huawei's NPU-optimised ESM-1v (650M) on Ascend promises a speed advantage for bioinformatics. But its 5-model ensemble for max accuracy, and ESM-2's lead on structural tasks, complicate its appeal. Hard to see the NPU gain outweighing that ensemble overhead for general protein analysis workflows.
