and frankly as someone who takes web safety very seriously to the point that i refuse to use my real name online, im baffled that we've gone from "dont tell anyone any of your identifiable information" to "in order to access this website you have to let Google sell your face to AI advertisers"
maybe im a sellout but i genuinely love designing merch like. i like making art with a purpose and making stuff as part of a set and i like incorporating graphic design elements into my art. like. it's fun!!! i don't even care that my stuff doesn't sell im just happy to design it in the first place
my problem isnt even necessarily with age verification as a concept but just the principal behind why it happens. i dont think kids should have access to NSFW content, but i also dont think that it should come at the expense of adults being blocked from viewing it, too. its FOR adults
Newgrounds is now forcing me to submit my ID to view adult rated artwork. i dont blame the site staff, im just pissed at Oklahoma's shitty ass, stupid ass conservative bullshit laws trying to stop my grown ass from accessing the art i WILLINGLY clicked on
like im 21 in a month. im old enough to drink alcohol, smoke weed, get married, buy a house, etc. this isnt 'protecting the kids' if its also preventing literal adults from accessing that kind of content unless they fork over their IDs. this is Video Nasties on steroids
