BUT You can still just make great buildings and even make your own small commune or castle town if you want. The crafting aesthetic of building something that looks good isn't thrown out just for the sake of making everything else harder. You can have both.

What I love most about Vintage Story is that, yes, it's fairly hardcore in how it demands you to do more survival crafting and learn full mechanics. Yes, you have to fertilize soil properly to grow food and do proper animal husbandry. Yes, you need to do blacksmithing and metallurgy.
