This week is Black Maternal Health Week — a time to raise awareness and take action on dangerous racial health gaps in childbirth. When I welcomed my son, Leo, last August, I experienced firsthand how dangerous birth can be for Black women.
Thank you to my State Senator @clareoumou.bsky.social for sharing her dangerous birth experience and pushing for policy change. These "safety stories" are not anomalies, but a pattern of our healthcare systems failing Black women.

Mothers ARE the movement. This is a great story. I was honored to share more about my work to make the Minnesota Senate more inclusive and improve maternal health outcomes.
Kicked off Black Maternal Health Awareness Week with Irth and Children’s MN for the announcement of their new partnership to strengthen neonatal care.
Irth’s Birth Without Bias Hospital Improvement Program will turn lived experiences into actionable data to root out bias and save lives.
When I gave birth to my first child in August, I faced life-threatening failures in care. I know firsthand why this work is so important.
We need more Minnesota hospitals to follow their lead.

I am so grateful for @haleytaylorschlitz.bsky.social’s voice. Covering doula services for all Minnesotans will save Black and Indigenous women's lives; stalling my bill leave more of us to die. This is not a 'niche' issue; this is about keeping parents and children alive.

This mama is officially running for re-election. Leo & I will see y’all on the campaign trail🏃🏽♀️👶🏾☀️
My story is a @womenwinning.bsky.social story. From intern to endorsed candidate, taking the stage at yesterday's annual luncheon was an incredible full-circle moment.
It was an honor to speak on reproductive justice and introduce @staceyabrams.com
