When Biden (or Obama or Romney) made a gaffe like this, said dumb comment would covered on a loop by media. Pundits would debate, other pols were asked to defend. Voters were reminded: "This is bad."
DC press ignore Trump gaffes, or move on quickly. That makes a difference.
