All of this, but also Belize wasn’t independent until 1981. It has been LESS than 100 years since the last of the big colonization horrors, and the aftermath hasn’t been fully felt yet. Like an earthquake with aftershocks, things are still shaking out.
And PR is of course a US territory still.

colonization doesn't have an apology timeline. Culturally everything about a country has changed and thousands of bloodlines were snuffed out for nothing but power, it took that many years for it to even be *acknowledged*
