I didn't end up as a medieval historian but I vividly remember reading The Carolingians and the Written Word as a first-year in NZ, as almost the first *proper* academic book I'd ever read. Then seeing this elegant, energetic woman seemingly flying around the streets of Cambridge. One of the GREATS.
