"There is absolutely nothing to see here" seems hard to reconcile with the section title
"How will Thermo Fisher prevent this from happening again?".
Possible culprit: in Microsoft Excel a zero in a cell marked as being a date is treated as midnight 30 December 1899. Why midnight on Dec 30th rather than Dec 31st or Jan 1st? To work around a bug in Lotus. See ericlippert.com/2003/09/16/e... for details.

@smutclyde.bsky.social discusses the recycling of kaggle datasets into the scientific literature. A paper from Scientific Reports used the "eye disease data set" which includes only a few hundred images, including animals, diagrams, and people in sunglasses.

Another reader noted the misspelling in the title of the plot, and then I noticed the lines on the plot are diagonal. Haven’t seen that before.
It was suggested elsewhere that the diagonal lines aren’t necessarily a problem.
My lab on slack.... maybe we can ask for a bigger discount?
Thermo Fisher now has a page up in response to our observations. They flatly deny that images were manipulated or fabricated while repeating that images were "optimized for presentation and clarity on the website", no lie, six times.
