❓ Although speculative at this point, we believe trust in national government is related to beliefs that institutions are already doing enough; whereas trust in local government (and greater contact with it) is related to beliefs that personal investment is safe and worthwhile.
Results in a 🥜:
📈 Increases in LOCAL political trust are related to GREATER likelihood to volunteer three months later.
📉 Increases in NATIONAL political trust are related to LOWER likelihood to volunteer three months later.
📈 New research shows that increased trust in local government is associated with a greater likelihood of volunteering, but an increase in national trust is related to a lower likelihood of volunteering.
