My first PhD student passed his viva today! So proud of Alastair aka future Dr Scott! Sincere thanks to @michaeljormsby.bsky.social and Andrew Free for examining. Everyone came out of it smiling and excited about science - totally worth all the hard work!
Another viva, another success! Very proud of Annis aka future Dr Newman for doing an excellent job. And a special thanks to @jayhinton.bsky.social and Garry Blakely for examining her thesis. Once again, there were smiles all around. I’m a proud supervisor indeed!
Since I became a lecturer 6 years ago, it’s been one thing after another - Brexit, Covid, job losses, strikes, fewer PhD studentships, dropping research funding success rates and now this - no funding at all. How are we supposed to go on?
Some communication from UKRI but doesn’t make me worry any less… www.ukri.org/news/open-le...
