The new European Butterfly Red List is published today, with worrying findings. Over 1/4 (28%) of Europeâs 442 species are threatened with extinction or are close to being so. The situation is far worse for our 148 endemic species, 40% are now threatened or nearly so www.bc-europe.eu/webpage.php?...

đČAn researchers has investigated the conservation of biodiversity in European forests using empirical data and virtual forest landscapes. Intensive harvesting does not threaten overal forest diversity if enough unmanaged forest is also present in the landscape. âĄïž r.jyu.fi/Gp5 @remiduflot.bsky.social
Our latest research shows that harvesting in Finland also takes place in forests of high biodiversity value, which highlights the need to integrate biodiversity conservation more closely into forest management practices.

Our 2025 State of the Climate Report was just published in BioScience by scientists from around the world including @michaelemann.bsky.social @petergleick.bsky.social This video (2 minutes) shows the key highlights: doi.org/10.1093/bios...
We analyses the Global Forest Watch map of forest loss (satellite based) and the compulsory notifications of forestry operations, and overlap them with the prioritization map of high biodiversity value forest produced by the Finnish Environement Institute @syke.fi
