Mayan clay figurine of a boxer or ritual fighter, Petén region, Guatemala, 600-900CE, notable for its ingenious design with a detachable helmet. Mayan boxers in pre-Hispanic art were often depicted wearing this type of head protection, sometimes combined with conch shell hand protectors for combat.
