We're not done yet! @sakhee-space.bsky.social is leading an analysis on the TESS Southern CVZ and @brandonradzom.bsky.social is optimizing COUNTESS. Next steps will be proper occurrence rates that we can combine with Kepler and K2 to give a complete transit demographics picture!
#AAS248 come to Session 119 #Exoplanet I - 2pm - Ballroom A to learn about COUNTESS! 119.01 COUNTESS: Exoplanet Demographics with the TESS Continuous Viewing Zones (me) 119.02 COUNTESS: A Pipeline to Extract the Potential of the TESS Mission for Exoplanet Demographics @brandonradzom.bsky.social

In this first paper, we focused on the Northern CVZ. We took TESS-SPOC light curves, detrended them using Wōtan, searched for planets using GERBLS, fit for planet signals using EXOTIC, vetted for false alarms and false positives using LEOVetter, and statistically validated with TRICERATOPS.
New paper led by Andrew Hotnisky (grad student, University of Florida)! COUNTESS I: A Uniformly Vetted Catalog of Known and New Transiting Exoplanets in the TESS Northern Continuous Viewing Zone arxiv.org/abs/2606.13789 #Exoplanets #AAS248 πŸ”
We tested and validated COUNTESS on existing TESS planet candidates. After running COUNTESS on ~26,000 targets with TESS-SPOC light curves. We found 10 brand new exoplanet candidates that passed all vetting tests! Our pipeline is sensitive to a wide range of periods and planet sizes.
We want to compute planet occurrence rates for the TESS Continuous Viewing Zones (CVZs), which have the longest observing baselines of the TESS mission. This will allow us to search for longer period planets, find smaller planets, and hopefully answer some open exoplanet demographics questions.
The TESS CVZs are two 450 square degree regions at the ecliptic poles, covering areas ~4 times the Kepler field of view. The CVZs contain ~800,000 main-sequence stars brighter than a TESS magnitude of 16.

Andrew developed the COUNTESS pipeline under the guidance of Dr. Rachel Fernandes. COUNTESS stands for Combining Observations to Unveil New Transiting Exoplanet Systems and Statistics. In this first paper, we set the stage for an end-to-end demographics pipeline for TESS.
