No, the peptide craze is not backed by science. "What people are shooting up with out there I would give to mice." “The influencer crowd has sort of created this perception that these are miracle drugs." New feature @nature.com nature.com/articles/d41...
Host killing by necrotrophs is really complex. Using a 29-gene knockout series in Botrytis cinerea, we show that removing nearly all known cell death-inducing proteins and major phytotoxins is not sufficient to prevent host necrosis. Check out the paper: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Very pleased to see this out. Our new Poecilia picta genome shows rapid Y degeneration in a young XY system — rapid gene loss and Helitron accumulation, plus compensatory gene traffic to autosomes. Led by @joellelafond.bsky.social with Yuying Lin & @squarehare.bsky.social doi.org/10.1111/mec....

Deletion of 29 cell death-inducing proteins and phytotoxin biosynthetic genes does not completely abolish virulence of Botrytis cinerea
Botrytis cinerea is a necrotrophic plant pathogen with an extremely wide host range. During invasion, the fungus induces rapid host cell death and proliferates in the necrotic tissue. The mechanisms o...

Top leaders at the American Diabetes Association have resigned in wake of the huge outpouring of support for the 5 scientists — incl an ADA flagship journal editor — that the ADA forcibly removed from the annual meeting for disturbing an editorial from the ADA’s own flagship journal.
Delighted to announce that this year’s Schering Young Investigator Award has been awarded to Can Aztekin, Max-Planck-Research Group Leader. Congratulations Can! Read the full article: www.bio.mpg.de/524116/can-a...
We just published our new paper about an active Helitron transposon in wheat 🌾🧬 We found that it can be mobilised by heat stress when DNA methylation is reduced. We document its full lifecycle: RNA -> circular DNA -> integration www.nature.com/articles/s41... #TEsky
