“Texas law limits how much landlords can generally charge in late fees, depending on the type of property.”
In the county, as it happens across the United States, Black tenants are disproportionately impacted. Although in OKC, Black people represent 22% of renters, 37% of evictions are against them.

Many cases involve relatively small debts, and around a third of all filings are for less than $1,000.
In the last 12 months, landlords filed 17,000+ evictions in Oklahoma County. This is 12 eviction filings for every 100 renter households.

Evictions are also repeated and concentrated: nearly 44% of all cases come from just 100 buildings. Some landlords rarely evict, but some evict constantly.

Client Challenge
These numbers haven’t budged in the last couple of years either. Since 2023, filings have stayed consistently high, with between 1,200 and 1,600 cases every month. A decade ago, filings were far lower, with less than 700 a month on average.
