There is no doubt that this is a real technical achievement. Bringing connectomic, visual, and biomechanical models together in a closed-loop virtual animal marks an important step for NeuroAI. At the same time, we should be careful not to confuse this with a full explanation of behaviour.
Trump recently called Iranians “animals”. This is vile, cowardly, and disgusting. Evolution has produced extraordinary living beings across the animal kingdom; Trump is a tragic exception to that dignity. #Trump #nowar
The meeting will bring together researchers across animal cognition, neuroscience and AI to bridge natural and artificial intelligence, exploring how principles of animal intelligence help us understand biological intelligence and inspire the next generation of adaptive intelligent technologies.
A wiring diagram can give us an extraordinary structural framework, but behaviour emerges from much more: neural dynamics, internal state, plasticity, biomechanics, and interaction with the world. That does not make this work less exciting. It makes the scientific challenge even more interesting.

Recent paper prompts us to reconsider how neural systems overcome time delays during natural behaviour, suggesting that active movement can enable faster and more efficient visual coding. Enjoy readig it. #vision #neuroscience #active_vision #AI
Today is International Bee Day - hooray for the tiny flying geniuses keeping our ecosystems To highlight the importance of bees in our lives, I was pleased to contribute an article exploring what robots can learn from bees. article: theconversation.com/what-ai-taxi... #InternationalBeeDay #AI

Recent coverage of Eon Systems’ virtual fruit fly has been verbally powerful, but we should be careful not to confuse this with a full explanation of behaviour. eon.systems I wrote a short article on why a connectome is not yet a theory of action: lnkd.in/enzTPZC8 #Neuroscience #NeuroAI #EmbodiedAI
