Fan comics in the western world never had anything like the doujin scene in Japan, and as much as I see ai generated material of very big manga and anime properties, the stuff I see in western comics is more “hey I made my own Invincible rip off to make my own comics”
I am far from the person to write this scholarly article, but the intersection of “originality” certain people in the west seem to desire (and most of us cannot stand/openly mock) and capitalism is very different than what’s happening over there from what I can tell
