The Human Rights Committee of Sweden’s Scientific and Literary Academies has sent an open letter to Xi Jinping appealing for the immediate release of the imprisoned scholar Ilham Tohti. Tohti was sentenced to life in prison in 2014 following his work on social issues facing Uyghurs in China.
