In 1788, James Hutton sailed past Siccar Point, and discovered a gap in the rock record spanning around 60 million years. It was here that the study of geology took off. Today is Hutton's 300th birthday, and in his honour BGS baker Steve has baked an unconformi-cake. Happy birthday, James 🎂
