Pretty much at the warmest point of the afternoon (just before 4pm) the garden was graced by this NFY Yellow-legged Clearwing. Such a smart moth 👌

First smart soldierflies are now on the wing in Lye Valley fen. First a female Common Green Colonel Oplodontha viridula, then a female Banded General Stratiomys potamida. Both sitting out a rain shower @friendlyevalley.bsky.social @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social @dipteristsforum.bsky.social

June is a special month for UK bumblebees – the Big Eight are joined by more of our rare and less common species 💛

Cockrow Bridge, spanning the A3 in near Cobham, opened in May. It has reconnected to rare heathland areas that were separated for 50 years.
The sand lizard has become increasingly scarce as the sandy heaths and dunes it depends on have been destroyed.
Kevin found this pair of Hornet Moths (Sesia apiformis) this morning when checking our favourite Poplar tree. Can't say I'm not just a little bit jealous!

Finally got out to Devil's Dyke, nr Newmarket, Cambs recently @wildlifebcn.org to be treated to adonis blue alongside the commons, a few marbled white and a tiny brown argus
