A lot of the time, when you call someone "the best to ever do it," it's hyperbole. But when it comes to classic multi-cam sitcom direction, Burrows was without any scintilla of a doubt the best to ever do it. RIP.
James Burrows was not a giant in sitcom directing. He was THE giant. The primary director of Cheers and Taxi. The only director (I believe) of Will & Grace. The director whose pilots for Friends, Third Rock, Frasier, and Big Bang Theory got them on the air. The king. RIP. people.com/james-burrow...
There's a case to be made that nobody has had more influence on the modern era of the television medium than James Burrows. His mastery of the half-hour comedy especially is unmatched & always will be. A master of what he did and incredibly beloved. RIP to a great 💚 people.com/james-burrow...
OH MY GOD
I try and keep my nose clean and not trash talk other folks in comics, it is unprofessional.
But I am also a proud trans woman. And John Byrne has a long, repeated history of disgusting transphobic statements on the very personal forum where he posted these comics that are now being collected.
(I am honestly asking if this is worth a buck or so)
If you’re an occasional HDTGM listener make sure you do listen to today’s about CIRCUS ISLAND (2006). Even better watch the movie first because hoooooooooo boy this one’s a doozy.
@patrickbromley.bsky.social and @thehorrorchick.bsky.social I’m sorry that I forget it this is one of the Hoopers to make sure to see or skip it from your Tobe series.
