Today, our #SCIMaP team released an impact analysis of the White House proposed FY 2027 NIH and NSF budgets.
Bottom-line: if enacted, cuts to science and medical research would lead to $35B in economic losses and 150,000 lost jobs in communities all across the US.

Cannot overstate the importance of this idea: Patients need appropriately selected comparisons in order to understand the meaning of their health data. Great work @ellenpeters.bsky.social !
Think math isn't for you? Vicki Abeles' 30-day Count Me In Challenge helps adults rediscover math as creativity, play & empowerment—not anxiety. As a numeracy researcher, I love this. Nicely done & actually fun.

Humans are bad at big numbers. Which makes it easier for billionaires (and trillionaires) to get away with hoarding wealth. Because most people just can't comprehend how much money that is.
So, I appreciate this WaPo effort to help people visualize what ridiculous amounts of wealth really mean.
Around the world, people rate their personal vulnerability to climate change as lower than it is for other people, including their neighbors.

Without context or comparison , numbers can feel meaningless to patients.
We offer 3 types of comparisons that might be helpful.
1. Compare with a plausible alternative option
2. Compare action with no action
3. Compare a patient's risk with that of others
