What do water and soil have in common? Can we study their histories together? Read the whole thread by @mathijsboom.bsky.social for his answer - expertly summarised and beautifully illustrated, as always 🤓 #envhist #skystorians #earlymodern #waterhistory #earthhistories
Belated #WorldWaterDay celebrations coming up in Rome: I'll be one of the guests of the wonderful www.voyagingvapors.com for their Plantation Architectures conference at the Istituto Svizzero 🌴🏡 My own talk on "Thirsty Plants" is Fri 27 AM! #skystorians #envhist #envhum #waterhistory
Can't believe it's already been a month since my talk at Anton de Kom Universiteit van Suriname (AdeKUS)! A brilliant opportunity to discuss my #envhist research on colonial Suriname - thanks to E. Jagdew & J. Egger for organising, P. Dikland for sharing, and G. Pengel for photographing #skystorians
My talk also featured some of the research I conducted last year @royalsociety.org in London as a Lisa Jardine grantee - stay tuned for an upcoming publication on it!
I've been working on a"new" project on the #waterhistory of colonial Suriname for over a year now 💧 This week, I've finally made it to Paramaribo: wonderful to visit Fort Zeelandia (pic) and the Nationaal Archief 🤓 Today, I present at the Universiteit van Suriname: excited to meet the real experts!
Looking forward to welcoming Prof Hélène Noizet back to @sociammulb.bsky.social next week for this lecture!
On Fri 07/11, Chloé Deligne and I will also host a seminar with her on urban water histories - come join us 💧🏙️👩🏫 (both events in FR)
PS: 16 September is of course next Tuesday, not Thursday - we've already told the organisers! But everything else, including the timing (4-5pm BST) is right
Join us in Paris in two weeks' time for a whole week of conferencing on "Histories of water" 💧 On Wed 20 May, I'll present a paper entitled "Sous le signe de Neptune: ambitions de contrôle des eaux dans les villes de l’Europe moderne" 🔱 #skystorians #waterhistory #envhist #envhums
