They could use the Internet without a shared computer or going to the library, and could look up the things their pastors said and go "Hey, he's full of shit."

Growing up, social media was a big part of self-discovery for me and lots of other LGBTQ teens. That's exactly why conservatives want to ban these platforms for kids. They would prefer to keep them isolated and in the dark while surveilling us all via digital IDs.
