HIV-1 has, for decades, been called, well, HIV-1. But no, according to the ICTV, that will no longer do, so the new name for this virus is "Lentivirus humimdef1".
Yup, you read that right.

The DRC 🇨🇩 is reporting an epidemic caused by an "unknown disease" with people exhibiting flu-like symptoms, first reported by local media, now spread by Reuters, AP etc.
There are reports of 143 deaths, with an anonymous source stating that WHO is involved in the investigation.
Eight additional infectious diseases will be added to the list of notifiable diseases in England once new legislation comes into force on 6 April 2025. Most with the exception of chickenpox will be rare. For more details, see link. www.gov.uk/government/c...
