Not wanting to be snarky but this is true of every technological advance in science. My entire PhD in 1983 was the fitting and refinement of a single protein crystal structure. Today I could do the same within an hour - no AI required. Hyperbole does not help.
Our understanding of depression is incomplete, leaving millions without effective treatment. I joined @hmarusak.bsky.social on her BrainSTEM podcast to discuss how my lab maps the mechanisms underlying the disease to develop better therapies. Listen here ⬇️ open.spotify.com/episode/2nX3...
And while it veers off into another direction that I wouldn't recommend as a muse in the same way, Lars von Trier's melancholia captures a similar "life is complicated and melancholia is not all bad" spirit. A thought provoking movie. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanch...

Melancholia I has a counterpart, Saint Jerome in his study. The opposition illuminates what's so great about Melancholia - her strife is part of the process toward progress. Saint Jerome is an idealization of all that is neat and tidy, but not how it actually works. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_J...

Melancholia I (Albrect Dürer, 1514). Isn't she fabulous?! "His Melancholia is neither a miser nor a mental case, but a thinking being in perplexity. She does not hold on to an object which does not exist, but a problem which cannot be solved." Struggling with a project this week? She's your muse.

The piece reflects an era dating back to Aristotle in which a melancholic nature was characteristic of those who spent much time pondering, such as scholars and artists; sometimes it was a sign of genius. Quote ref from OP: press.princeton.edu/books/paperb...
Hopping on a plane to DC tonight, because @standupforscience.net is fighting this new OMB rule proposal with everything we’ve got. My calendar is literally booked for 12 hours of meetings, on the Hill, in a row for three days. Wanna sponsor the trip? secure.qgiv.com/for/stop-vou...
