An amazing birthday present.
For the evening crowd…
Hear me out: Doctor When
On top of the plot and characterization and sci-fi thriller trappings, Disclosure Day is about the collective sense "that we have been evolutionarily derailed by lies and emotional dishonesty," writes @briantallerico.bsky.social. "It’s hard to argue he’s wrong." www.rogerebert.com/reviews/disc...
DISCLOSURE DAY will piss off people who want answers to everything. But Spielberg doesn't care. After dissecting himself in THE FABELMANS, the director goes after his canon here. Has something in common with Spike Lee's SCHOOL DAZE, believe it or not.

Pretty sure this is the first time I've ever poured my heart into a 4-star review on my birthday. I love Disclosure Day. www.rogerebert.com/reviews/disc...
7 years ago today, I made my debut on @ebertvoices.bsky.social with a piece about THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO.
Disclosure Day is Spielberg's most satisfying film in over a decade, a smart conspiracy thriller about the need for radical empathy/optimism. I'll have more to say about it later this week, but in particular, I found the final minutes incredibly intense and emotional.
My brief thoughts about Spielberg’s DISCLOSURE DAY.
Blown away by Steven Spielberg's deeply felt return to contemplative sci-fi, DISCLOSURE DAY. Supremely assured storytelling, pulse-racing action and a knockout performance from Emily Blunt, alongside Josh O'Connor and Colin Firth, both in strong form.

A movie that reminds viewers that blockbusters can be morally and thematically complex while they’re entertaining the hell out of you.

okay let’s hear your wildest Doctor Who reboot pitches
The Last Black Man in San Francisco follows Jimmie and Montgomery’s struggle to retake the former’s family home, and overcome the origins of gentrification.
There’s a certain thrill to watching a filmmaker wholly assured in every rhythmic and visual decision he’s making. “Disclosure Day” would work solely as a popcorn mystery ripe for several summer days ...
Also featuring Colman Domingo, Eve Hewson and Wyatt Russell, the David Koepp-scripted sci-fi thriller asks, “What if we discover we’re not alone in the universe as our own world teeters toward destruc...
While this is probably for the best (these past two seasons have been…something else), I’m very un-thrilled about the uncertain future of the show

The BBC said the decision was made "after careful consideration" and had "not been taken lightly".
