What terrible news. Professor Wood was always very kind to me. When I was an undergrad, he told me, "You deserve to go to grad school," and wrote me a letter. As a scholar, I haven't always agreed with him, but he was a great historian, and an encouraging teacher. My condolences to his family.

On Sunday, one of Rhode Island’s most accomplished writers and historians, Gordon Wood, was hit and killed by a motorist.
