"Chosen one" narratives are one of my least-favorite tropes in storytelling.
Nothing good comes from telling audiences(and particularly children) that exceptional people are chosen at birth.
I'd say that perception, in fact, is a deep sickness in our collective culture that leads to real problems.
I did a panel earlier this year on character development, and the idea of "earned subversion," where there an "earned" payoff to keeping a characters traits very consistent for a long time, for the purpose of getting to make jokes way later on in their arc. This is my favorite example of this 😭😭
