I've banged this drum both in conversations and in reviews in the past, but here is a perfect example of how lack of care around gene naming can lead to major issues in publications. Everyone collectively needs to take gene naming and ID reporting very seriously.

Going forward, we all need to strive to report stable gene IDs and ensure consistency with other published work. This can be tough for evo bio or people working in non-model systems, but that makes it more critical we get our reporting right.
