New figures published by the ONS show 9,809 people died from conditions caused by alcohol across the UK in 2024. Prof Sir Ian Gilmore has called on the government to act on it's responsibility and introduce a national alcohol strategy that matches the scale of the problem. ahauk.org/news/ons-alc...
🤔Currently in the UK, a bottle of orange juice is required to display more nutritional information than a bottle of beer. We all have a right to know what's in our drinks, and the health risks associated with it. 👏Great to see this piece championing a call for mandatory labels on alcohol.

Today's ONS figures show Scotland's alcohol death rate at 20.9 per 100,000. A slight decline but remains a public health emergency. The newly re-elected Scottish Government must set out a clear plan to reduce these avoidable deaths. Read SHAAP's full comment on our website👇 buff.ly/SyoJ7D7

Today I met with representatives from @alcoholfocus.bsky.social and @aha-uk.bsky.social to find out more about their campaign for mandatory labels on alcoholic drinks which display nutritional and health related information.
The mental health system and alcohol treatment services are too often siloed - which means people with co-occurring conditions fall through the gaps in both. That's a clear system failing. Read our recent report this #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. ias.org.uk/report/barriers-to-recovery
