I’m not someone who thinks you need big qualifications to talk about soccer but the fact that the face of US soccer commentary is Alexi Lalas who doesn’t have the credentials, humor, substance, or insight to be worthwhile, and is just plainly a bad person reflects so badly on the country

I’ll give FIFA credit for this - you can cancel out a lot of the bad vibes people are feeling about the corruption, the throwing your support with fascists etc by getting people to see the tournament kick off at the Estadio Azteca.
I was pessimistic about having to watch Fox’s usually horrendous World Cup coverage but I didn’t know Thierry Henry was on the team this year. This opens the possibility of him basically telling Alexi Lalas “my guy are you really going to try to talk about this sport with me”
