If January 6th was violent projectile vomit then the UFC's Freedom 250 event on the south White House lawn this weekend was the miserable subsequent spew of diarrhea from our sick electoral body. Here's what my weekend in DC was like.

Honored to come on and loudly yell about why I think 1997 film Event Horizon is actually a better adaptation of the Backrooms than Backrooms was

These will start out cosmetic — premium filters, page designs, etc. — but we should assume that this is part of a broader rollout of a tiered algorithm and better discovery for paying users. X already does this. Silicon Valley wants to be TV broadcasters and this is how they're doing it.
After the clipping hysteria of the last few months, we know that these kind of tiered algorithms kill any incentive to share things genuinely. It quickly becomes payola all the way down. If you pay users to post and they pay you to get paid and be seen, the whole thing becomes rotten.
Paying a subscription to use Meta products is patently absurd for the average user. Which Meta obviously knows. From a content perspective, they offer nothing that's worth paying for. These are predatory subscriptions plans clearly aimed at businesses that are dependent on these platforms.
