Drosophyllum is a greedy carnivorous plant, particularly in spring. However, its funnel-shaped flowers (despite having five free petals) prevent it from trapping and digesting its pollinating insects.

Aphid lions (Chrysoperla sp.) are common prey for Drosophyllum in mid-spring (April–May). I suspect that adult females mistake the mucilage droplets, both visually and fragrantly (VOCs), for aphid infestations and land on the leaves to lay their eggs to secure food for their larvae. #EMBAUCA

A mediados del siglo pasado, los brezales se consideraron un hábitat degradado y se forestaron, principalmente con especies de pino, sin prever las drásticas consecuencias ambientales.
