Politicians who fanned these flames should hang their heads in shame.
Time and again we've seen this story play out. Single incidents used to fuel a far right narrative - and communities across the nation paying the price.
Let’s call this what it is. A pogrom in the UK. Masked mobs hunting down foreigners and dark-skinned people, smashing windows, burning houses.
An attempt at a British Kristallnacht.
Far-right agitators fomenting violence, like Elon Musk FRS, are a disgrace & must be stopped.

For example:
Incorrect/outdated portrayals of human evolution can lead and indeed have led to perpetuation of racist ideas.
Descriptions of male animals as 'alphas' perpetuate outdated misogynistic & pseudoscientific tropes.
'Monsterization' of predators leads to fear and disconnect.

New goober in the works, who could it be
I'm busy procrastinating, and so I decided to do a Q&A over on Instagram. In the interest of procrastinating harder, I'll do one here too - if you'd like, feel free to ask me anything in the comments and I'll do my best to answer!
It's easy for tropes like these (and many others) to slip their way into a programme, so I always try very hard to keep them out of the ones I work on. It is disheartening when things like this do make their way into otherwise valuable pieces of sci-comm. (3/3)
Got my hands on the latest by @stevebrusatte.bsky.social who gave a delightful talk all about the wonders of bird evolution! Very excited to delve into it!!
I largely agree with this! While I do love it when these projects try their best to reconstruct their animals, it is not inherently harmful if the animal has the wrong number of fingers.
However, there *are* tangibly harmful layers to this form of sci-comm which I'm much more wary of. (1/3)
