But the bottom line is, there's no need for China to influence anything. A recent Gallup poll found that 71% of Americans would oppose AI data center construction in their community.
And unlike a lot of issues in this country right now, the Partisan split isn't even all that great.
but...that's not to say China isn't trying to influence the data center debate. OpenAI just banned some China-linked accounts for using ChatGPT to try to fan online opposition. They posed as Americans and posted AI-gen comments and pics about rising electricity costs. openai.com/index/prc-li...
regardless, it's a good bet the folks claiming data center resistance is a CCP-funded op are going to run with this as further proof.
