From a recent D&D Beyond Changelog:
"5e and 5.5e Are Clarity Labels, Not a New Edition
• 2014 rules content will be labeled “5e.”
• 2024 updated rules content will be labeled “5.5e.”
• 5.5e remains fully backward compatible with 5e."
