Could it be a Quail year? We've seen a big increase in reports of this elusive migrant gamebird in the last two weeks. Reports don't usually peak until late June, so it will be interesting to see whether the influx continues into the summer #ukbirding
Happy World Oceans Day! Here is the extent of the world's oceans used by just a few of the seabird species covered by the SMP. Their importance is undeniable #WorldOceansDay #seabirds @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

There are now only around three weeks to go until the 2026 BBS survey season finishes at the end of the month! Please try and do your ‘Late’ visit as close to your average visit date as possible, as long as the weather is suitable. @btobirds.bsky.social JNCC RSPB Science
(1/) One species that featured quite prominently in the 2025 BBS Report is Spotted Flycatcher. This summer visitor has dropped in numbers by over 60% since the mid 1990s. This decline seems to be occurring across the UK… @btobirds.bsky.social JNCC RSPB Science #Ornithology

Just submitted my 17 AON from Livermere Lake. All sites, big and small, really make an important contribution to SMP. If you see inland breeding gulls and terns, please make an effort to count the number of nests, and ideally young birds and submit to SMP.

If you’re a birder in Northern Ireland, we need your help! Lough Muck in Co. Tyrone has only been counted twice in 1992 and attracts common waterbird species. If you can help please contact us via the "Contact the Local Organiser" button at app.bto.org/websonline/s... #Ornithology #UKBirding
We've received data submissions for 16 of the 25 core SMP species in 2026 so far. Currently, Black Guillemot, Fulmar, and Herring Gull form the top three. How long will Black Guillemot hold the top spot!? Don't forget to submit your data! @btobirds.bsky.social @jncc.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
