Tuesday’s incident was unusual, but it was far from the first time a driver has caused major delays for thousands of Link passengers. MLK Way’s dangerous design poses a daily risk to Rainier Valley residents and contributes to Link service disruptions nearly every month.
Just last year, the Link ridership record was 159,500 boardings in one day (May 24, 2025). Now the system is averaging 160,000 boardings every day.

Ridership data from April 2026 is now available and it does not disappoint. Link ridership rose 46% over March and had a record 155,840 average daily boardings.

But countless people on bicycles have been killed because we value parking more than a protected bike lane.
