Our EIC, James Diaz, will be reading their poems next Friday, June 19th, from 6 to 8 at Otto's Shrunken Head on the lower east side for Adverse Abstraction along with two other fellow poets! Come on out if you're in the area, and end the long work week with some poems.
"Sleep my sweet child Rest soundly and dream of beautiful things You are my heart, you precious fragile bird. And this is the home I’ve made for you, for us, to be safe." heroinchic.weebly.com/blog/poetry-...
Two more weeks before submissions close! heroinchic.weebly.com
"Let there be no more struggle", but while there is let us share it amongst each other. Hand to hand, let us pass it down the line until each voice is heard and each pain told. That life breaks us is known, but that it sweetens also with the company you keep, in those long and dark days...
it's the thing of all things. A little over two weeks left before our submissions close. Walk home with us. heroinchic.weebly.com
"There’s work to be done. Open that box of secrets and forgive each desire that wrecked you. There’s a river in you. There’s a fist willing to unclench, an open hand you can offer back to yourself. Once you find it, you can give it away."
"when my grandfather died, he came back as a sound. he came back as a vinyl record spinning comes back as a planet. dark and spherical, edged with wrinkles and worry. he came back as a chess board. he came back as the amber scent of bourbon rimming glass cups"
Creativity is also about how we live and love and repair. Friends, share with us the voice you've found. Submissions close in a little under three weeks. heroinchic.weebly.com
"I used to pull petals off of flowers in a field by my house. Behind the old fire station and next to the cemetery where my dad mowed the lawn (and I skipped) between the graves... it’s hard when you’re 5 to know God’s the flowering and not a thing who could love you or not."

"Follow the path known by heart". How we listen to ourselves matters. With deep and attentive or distant and dissociated ears. Truthfully most days it is a bit of both. But that we struggle to hear ourselves. It's how any piece of art gets born. And in the birthing something new in us finds voice...
