Complete mitochondrial genome. Using long-read sequencing, we resolved the full mitochondrial genome, including the control region.
I’m jealous of everyone who got to be there! I met Dr. Moreau at the Evolution conference, and her SSB presidential talk was inspiring. Definitely don’t miss her talk if you get the chance!
Here are some highlights: Chromosome-level assembly. One of the most complete beetle genomes assemble with strong metrics in both contiguity and completeness (BUSCO 99.3%).

Sex chromosome identification. We identified both the X and Y chromosomes. Assembling the Y chromosome is challenging due to its highly degraded and repetitive content. Using a quotient approach, we successfully characterized it and even found KDM5D, a gene known to be Y-linked in mammals.
