I beg people who write essays like this to consider gender. I beg. And I genuinely -- genuinely -- want to see how a rural lady candidate would do while performing the "toughness" signifiers. Split some wood. Ride a horse. Sort some pigs. Herd some cattle. Drive a tractor.
