Exploring the great microbial eukaryote diversity and evolution, one protist at a time. I’m fascinated by this question: how have #plastids evolved? #ProtistsOnSky | Associate Prof at Uppsala University. My lab: https://www.burki-lab.net/

I'm looking for a postdoc to work on diatom phylogenomics. Reach out by email with questions. Please share and repost! uasys.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/UASYS/job/Fa...
Everything is better together! ✨ Me and @fburki.bsky.social recently had the opportunity to visit #OIST and the Husnik group in Japan. We sampled alot of water, found amazing cells and got to meet several cool protistology and symbiosis colleauges🙌 #protist #scicommUU26 Evening view from OIST

10/ Take-home message: compositional heterogeneity is not just a nuisance—it can change phylogenetic conclusions. GFmix gives us a practical way to model some of that complexity in protein phylogenomics.
Our thoughts on the recent article by Edu Ocaña-Pallares on the evolution of osmotrophic eukaryotes, just published in NEE: Reversal to osmotrophy in eukaryotes www.nature.com/articles/s41... www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Interesting new tool to extract phylogenies from images (Tremble). It is crazy that this is still something we have to do. doi.org/10.1093/bioi...
