Great news in Ontario!⚡️
🔋Battery storage projects won all 640 MW of IESO’s latest capacity contracts, beating out gas at some of the lowest prices in recent procurements. Every project is 50%+ Indigenous-owned.

While the report nods to risk reduction—hazard maps, Indigenous-led cultural burning, FireSmart, building codes—it understates the scale required. It also misses a key point: new housing should be steered away from wildfire risk. 👇 climateinstitute.ca/reports/clos...
Solar and wind projects recently won all previous IESO energy contracts valued at 1.1 GW thanks to competitive prices that keep rates low for consumers.

Batteries offer big benefits for the grid by improving reliability, flexibility and cutting costs. Stay tuned for our new report (coming soon!) showing how building clean power faster can give Canada a competitive edge.

The report’s top recommendations focus mostly on response and recovery: a federal wildfire office, more firefighting aircraft, evacuation/mental health supports, rebuilding funds, and firefighter training. All are needed. But response and recovery are not enough.

🧵Canada needs to get better at responding to climate-fuelled wildfires. But we also need to reduce wildfire risk before it becomes a disaster. A new Senate Committee report outlines how the catastrophic effects are harming lives, communities, and critical economic sectors.⬇️
