Male ferns of the Drypoteris affinis complex pose a problem for taxonomists & botanists alike, as ploidy level (number of complete chromosome pairs) is key for species ID, but this complex has di-, tri-, tetra- & pentaploid taxa! Stomatal length increases with ploidy, but can this be a proxy? (1/2)
