Another story on our lab group's recent study on oxygen loss from the oceans before the end-Triassic mass extinction. ⚒️🧪 #NSFfunded

Learn how Earth’s oceans started losing oxygen in Alaska’s ancient rocks 8 million years before the end-Triassic mass extinction, a detail that may help solve a 200-million-year-old mystery.
Write your representatives and stop this stupidity.
In 2017, NIH proposed capping how much funding any single lab could hold. Senior PIs killed it in a month.
The trainees who would have benefited said nothing.
OMB-2026-0034 is the same fight. This time you're the target.
So weird that the Trump Administration is pushing for “Gold Standard Science” (TM) while dismantling all the systems in place that would actually facilitate that.

I am glad to find @agu.org organizing its membership in opposition to the attempt by Russell Vought and OMB to upend all US government grant funding: agu.quorum.us/campaign/163...
May other professional societies do likewise.
New: NSF is tightening its conflict of interest rules in what could be a headache for the understaffed agency. Starting in August, reviewers will no longer be able to participate in a panel with any proposals from their own institution.
My reporting for @science.org:
OMB is run by Project 2025 architect Russell Vought. Did you know that the Director of the OMB can be impeached?
Congress has historically supported science—it’s why they keep rejecting Trump’s budget cuts. Vought is trying to do an end-run around Congress. There’s an easy fix for that.
The Administration's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a proposed rule that would politicize federal science grantmaking, replacing scientific rigor with ideological gatekeeping.

New policy hands universities the reins in probing allegations against faculty
This program was already funded. The only reason for doing this is out of spite. What a waste.

OMB is forcing “the Smithsonian to spend congressionally appropriated funding in a way that’s ‘consistent with the FY 2026 President’s Budget’ in order to receive it. The president’s budget differed widely from what Congress ultimately chose to fund.”

The administration is creating a conflict with how Congress intended its money be spent.
