I suppose this was inevitable, and that the clock towards it was ticking down ever since the 2013 Rogers agreement and its token gesture towards the CBC... but it's still kind of surreal to see it happen.

It is easy to overstate and overrate the impact of hockey on the Canadian national consciousness, but it is still very much A THING and it is a thing that was duly aided by free access to NHL hockey games through our publicly-funded national broadcaster. Now, that era is officially over.
