The CRC 1633 recently met at Hofgeismar for our yearly retreat, bringing together all research groups to discuss current projects, strengthen collaboratoins, and explore new ideas. Many thanks to our keynote speakers, Prof. Reinhard Maurer and @winald-kitzmann.bsky.social!

If you are interested in a historical perspective on [Ru(bpy)₃]²⁺, check out this recent article by Giorgio Scattolini, Andrea Rosichini and Nidhi Kaul: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
Finally, we show where [Ru(bpy)₃]²⁺ has driven real-life applications from industrial photoredox catalysis to immunosensing, and where next-generation photosensitizers might take its role in the future.
We highlight how [Ru(bpy)₃]²⁺ still challenges our understanding of excited state relaxation, how it inspires new photochemical pathways from multiphoton to ball-milling photoredox chemistry, and how it enables complex function in dyads, biohybrids and polynuclear assemblies.

I really enjoyed my recent visit to UConn! Big thanks to Gaël Ung for hosting me and the warm welcome by the students and faculty. I'm still amazed by the department's periodic table display with hundreds of samples. It really shows that chemistry is everywhere! chemistry.uconn.edu/periodic-tab...

Happy to see our recent paper in Inorganic Chemistry highlighted as a cover! We found that slight distortions of the ligand can lengthen or shorten the excited state lifetimes in group 6 carbonyl complexes. Check out the full story here: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/... @labheinze.bsky.social
2026 marks 90 years of [Ru(bpy)₃]²⁺ which has undoubtedly shaped photochemistry since its inception. Celine Bourgois, @ludotroian.bsky.social and I took this opportunity to examine how this old system continues to fuel innovation in the field. Check it out here: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
Very proud to see my first last-author paper published! We report dramatic effects of a ligand backbone modification on 3MLCT lifetimes in Cr/Mo/W complexes. Read how we disentangle potential energy well flattening, conformations and self-quenching below! @labheinze.bsky.social
