There's got to be a better alternative to paywalls. Web publications need a working business model, but this obstacle-filled hellscape is more like hurdling than surfing. The faster the information landscape deteriorates, the harder publishers make it to access anything of quality.
Every paywall, even the "free with login", is a cue for readers (inc those with paid up accounts logged out or viewing via in-app browser etc) to walk away and ignore the content altogether - to say nothing of the impact on the balance between quality information and AI BS (and regular manmade BS).
