always found it strange how for a long time it's been more socially acceptable to say "i played it in my childhood so i'm nostalgic for it" as a default defense of an older game rather than acknowledging that the older game might have made more compelling or interesting artistic decisions

whenever I see someone say a remake 'fixed' the original, I just get sad. videogames almost exclusively have such a hostile relationship with their past. classics are simultaneously beloved and loathed, never met with curiosity but resentment that they're not pre-packaged into modern convention.
